The USCG RIO St. Croix office consistently carries out operational duties connected to marine safety throughout the entire island of St. Croix. Small passenger vessels, inspected towing vessels, and foreign ships subject to port state control, such as foreign freight ships, tankers (chemical and oil carriers), and Caribbean cargo ships, are among the vessels that must be inspected. The RIO St. Croix office also conducts container inspections, facility inspections of LNG, mobile, and oil transfer facilities, marine fatality investigations, and pollution investigations in addition to vessel inspections (including combined agency activities). Additionally, RIO St. Croix serves as the Captain of the Port's direct representative and liaison at USCG SECTOR SAN JUAN.
